Big news on the Triple Crown of Rodding event, which is slated for September 8-9, 2023 (weekend after Labor Day) at Nashville Superspeedway.

PPG is now the Presenting Sponsor for the Triple Crown of Rodding.

LMC is now the Official Truck Parts Supplier of the Triple Crown of Rodding and will present the three awards set aside for the three Best Truck categories (Up to 1972, 1973-87, and 1988-98). The awards were originated by one of our very own hot rod designers Eric Brockmeyer.

Gibson Brands, Inc. is supplying six very cool Gibson SG guitars that will be engraved with the 2023 Triple Crown of Rodding logo. One will be given to each of the six Triple Crown of Rodding winners!

And what about that 2023 Chevy pickup? It too can be won by you if you are one of the lucky registered participants. You win and you drive it home. The truck will be flamed by Josh Shaw for Alloway’s Hot Rod Shop, dropped and equipped with Billet Specialties wheels and aftermarket rubber.

Special thanks to One Ten Machining and Advanced Plating for the manufacturing and finishing of the six Triple Crown of Rodding awards.

red gear icon Goodguys Trendsetter Award: Will Posey of Big Oak Garage

Goodguys presented Will Posey of Big Oak Garage in Hokes Bluff, Alabama, with its prestigious Trendsetter Award during the Hot Rod Industry Alliance (HRIA) reception at the 2022 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. The award is given to rising young builders in the hot-rod and custom car industry and is a highlight among SEMA’s annual industry show.

Known most recently for the ’61 Chevy Impala “Dirty Martini” (recipient of the Best Street Cruiser category within the Triple Crown of Rodding), Will Posey and his team at Big Oak Garage were recognized for having won accolades such as the 2022 Chevrolet Performance GM Iron Builder of the Year and Goodguys 2022 Fuel Curve Custom of the Year, and for being a contender for the Al Slonaker Memorial Award. The shop’s brilliant green ’65 Dodge Dart was also noted for becoming a Great 8 finalist at the 2015 Detroit Autorama, as well as a Goodguys Steet Machine of the Year finalist.

Will Posey’s passion began at a young age, attending rod runs and car shows with his father, Jimmy. In his teens, Will began bracket racing a ’67 Chevy Camaro and later attended McPherson College to study auto restoration. After working for Alan Johnson, another Goodguys Trendsetter recipient, Will and his father went on to open their own shop, named for the big oak tree that resides on the property.

In the Nov. ’22 issue of Modern Rodding we featured the ’53 Studebaker titled the Studillac. We should have given a bit more information regarding Schroeder Speed & Custom, of Troutdale, Oregon.

Cadillac Hotrod Fabricators provided the stick shift bellhousing, the flywheel, and the engine wiring harness. We should have recognized Schroeder Speed & Custom, a full-service rod shop, as they performed (outside what is noted) the remainder of the build. Job well done by Schroeder, and we hope to have more of their work featured on the pages of Modern Rodding in the future.
